For those of us who really look forward to switching out our shorts and sandals for fall fashion, this year has not only amplified the feelings, it’s also made it much weirder. And while everything has changed in six months and even though we may still be months from returning, people are starting to think about what they’re going to be wearing beyond their workout gear. What was comforting –– even necessary –– in the first few months of the pandemic, especially sweats and pajama bottoms, isn’t working anymore.
Here at beckie+martina, our approach to Fall fashion is day by day, figuring out how to re-interpret the daily look in our Covid world. That may mean that everyday office “business formal” gets dressed down a bit now. And quality over quantity, and “less is more” are more relevant than ever. For the committed WFH crew, it’s still all about comfort, but with more simple, clean lines and fabrics, and less PJ’s and Lululemon.
Luckily, Fall ’20 has some easy and good style solutions. For both men and women, a great coat, nice layers and real shoes, like a classic loafer, good boot, and a cool sneaker still work really well. And since fall is usually about black, brown and shades of grey, a little color, print, or texture can’t hurt. We love dark green, burgundy, softer grays, caramel, tweed, houndstooth, and plaids. Classic colors and fabrics that never go out of style.
Of course there are some things that never change. We still recommend you invest in a good coat or two, so you don’t have fashion fatigue by January. Given how uncertain the next 12 months are likely to be, you’re going to need your energy. And whatever else happens, indoor parties or events are probably still going to be a no go. So, have some fun, and get yourself a great coat! You may be spending a lot of time outside this year.
