Earlier this year, after not buying anything that wasn’t absolutely necessary throughout the pandemic, we broke our retail fast and each purchased the most comfortable pair of shoes we could find (ignoring our own “style over comfort” rule). Beckie ditched her “running shoes are for running” stance, and nabbed a pair of Allbirds, while Martina scooped up a pair of blindingly white rubber Birkenstock’s. We respectively wore them with everything for as long as we could get away with it.
But, now it’s Fall.
As life begins its slow, slow return to normal, we should all be dusting off our high boots and heels, right? But here’s the truth. That world is gone, or at least it’s not obligatory now. We’ve gotten comfortable spending time at home — along with the comfortable shoes that go with that.
But if you’re crawling out of your skin to get back into the stream of city life, there is no shortage of great fall shoe options this season. Shoes that balance the cravings of comfort with our desire for something with STYLE –– classic combat boots, lug soled penny loafers, cuban heels, even sexy sneakers.
Did someone say “rusty”? While all the choices are great, it can be overwhelming! So along with these narrowed down styles, we’ve thrown in a few reminders to help you get back in the shoe game this fall.
Go for staple colors like black, neutrals or animal prints, especially if you’re starting to rebuild your collection.
If you’re dying to try a new trend, which may or may not stick around, we always recommend looking into less expensive but well-made options (Madewell, Sam Edelman, and Zara have great up to date, durable options).
That said, spending a bit more on a staple boot is always a good investment.
As we always say, the shoe/boot can make or break the outfit. This is especially true in the Fall.
Try to add a fun element into your footwear with a print, embellishment or grommets.
